Having moved to the Austin, Texas area in September 2023, my heart for ministry is to be a 21st Century Missionary in America and to train others to do the same. This is accomplished by way of making disciples who make disciples as we unleash God’s Word, becoming known as Jesus’ followers who love one another and our neighbors, boldly confessing along the way.
Utilizing a co-vocational approach, the thinking is that greater flexibility is permitted to help with the “experimental” aspect of this Gospel Outpost. Additionally, this approach helps to strengthen local congregations and not burden them. Often, “bi-vocational” means earning money until the ministry can be self-supporting. “Co-vocational” does not seek that goal, but instead assumes the church worker will continue to earn money in multiple vocations so that the future ministry does not necessarily need to be self-sustaining according to traditional structures.
Furthermore, this puts forth the values of the Harvest Partnership in tangible, concrete ways. We are responding to the fact that: the Spirit is already on the move and that He will reveal persons of peace. So, while we will seek Gospel reproduction with urgency, we will be prioritizing God’s sending and mission personally and collectively. This means that we will take the time needed to engage in and expand the relational capital for mission to happen in our current cultural context all while trusting that God will provide far more than we could ask or imagine. We will foster an abundance mentality by honoring, encouraging, and building up one another in love.
